So what's all the hype about? The answer lies in the technology. Sure, "Ceramic" or "Zirconium" sounds trendy and desirable, but what is it? Zirconium is an element obtained from the mineral Zircon - a very strong metal, somewhat resembling titanium. You may have heard (hopefully not from your spouse!) of Cubic Zirconia jewelry which is hard to tell from its authentic counterparts and has the same sort of hardness as the hardest substance in the world: diamond. Steel-hardening efforts have always been futile at making knives stronger; Zirconium, however, truly shines in its application to cutlery. New technology allows for advanced presses to apply 300 tons of pressure to Zirconia powder, creating a substance of 8.5 hardness on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness; regular steel knives rate at 6-6.5, diamonds are a perfect 10. And much like diamonds, these knives are forever - honed with diamond-coated grinding wheels, it is the sharpest cutlery in the world.

The benefits of Ceramic knives don't stop here. Unlike traditional metal cutlery, Zirconium blades do not rust (no iron!) and their chemical composition will resist stains from excessive use. The material is simply too dense for these elements to absorb - your food's taste will never be altered by an old knife! The knife's resistance to harmful acids and other corrosive elements further extends its lifespan, rendering sharpening knives with dangerous, expensive, bulky tools a thing of the past. The same qualities also make the knife highly resistant to bacteria and extremely easy to clean, making it a health-conscious choice as well. Ceramic blades are much lighter than traditional metal cutlery, which means that, to properly balance the knife, less weight needs to be added to the handle. This quality, coupled with its sharpness, makes cutting effortless.
